The music video in the making...
These are some of the step I took to editing the music video in Final Cut Express.
The first screen grab shows how I created the dark edges for the dream sequence. The darker softer edges of each shot make the sequence seem more like a dream because it looks unreal and like a vision. This edging only appears throughout the dream sequence which makes it more obvious because it is different to the rest of the music video.
This screenshot shows you how I sped up a clip and reversed the shot. Originally this piece of filming was light changing to darkness, however to make sense in the music video we needed the filming reversed so it played darkness to light. Therefore, by ticking the reverse box I could do this. Furthermore, the original clip played for over 40 minutes but we needed to reduce the length of this clip without cutting some of the footage out because it would not flow as it should. To do this I simply had to increase the percentage of the speed. To speed up the clip enough the percentage ending up at 40106.79% which reduced the speed to just over 3 seconds.
This next image is of the beginning of the video where I added the music feature which was created by Rach and Jake on Photoshop. To add the image I had to import it into Final Cut Express and then drag it into the sequence above the clip where I wanted it to appear. This music feature made the video look more realistic to a viewer and informed them of the name of the artist and the song.
This next shot is a part of the past sequences. It displays how the couple used to be before the constant arguments. I wanted these shots to be in black and white so I desaturated the shots to make them seem more dated. Therefore, this screenshot shows you how I desaturated the images.
Once I had created the main sequence of the video I had to add some transitions to make the shots flow into one another when necessary. When the music is slower, I have used more transitions because they are more suited to the slow pace, however when the chorus begins there are many more quick cuts in the sequence.
This is one of the transitions which I have used. It is a cross dissolve which has been stretched over most of the two different shots so that the characters appear as if they are in the same shot for a few seconds.
This shot seemed rather bright compared to the dull desaturated shot it followed on from. Therefore I had to adjust the brightness and contrast to make it match the previous shot slightly without desaturating the shot.
This is another shot which I had to adjust the brightness on to make the shots seem brighter throughout the dream and less realistic. It also made the shots seem different to the other ones in the music video.
