There are many different music channels which play the many different types of genre of music. The main types of genres that songs can be are:

  • Rock
  • Pop
  • Country
  • Western
  • Electric

  • RnB
  • Hip Hop

  • House
  • Metal

As you can see this many different genres will require different music channels and so everyone can listen to their specific taste in music. When we researched our chosen song we found that the genre was American Alternative Rock. It is a type of music which emerged in the 1980's and became more popular in the 1990's. It consists of subgenres such as grunge, Britpop, gothic rock and indie pop. Indie pop is the sub genre which Lifehouse would fit into. Once the genre of a song is decided then the music channel in which it would be payed is then chosen. There are many music channels which exist currently, including TV channels, radio stations and also internet websites which allow you to listen to music online.
The main music channels are:

  • 4 Music
  • Kerrang!
  • Kiss
  • Magic
  • MTV Base
  • MTV Hits
  • MTV One
  • Smash Hits
  • The Box
  • TMF
  • VH1
  • Q
  • Music on Demand
  • MTV 2

Each music channels has its specific genre of music which it plays. The song we choose for our music video,
Lifehouse - Halfway Gone would most likely be played on either VH1, Kerrang! or possibly Q. These are the few channels which are likely play Alternative Rock music.
